For the next couple of releases, John was basically in retirement raising Sean at this point and didn’t want to be bothered to do any solo stuff yet alone contribute tracks to the next collection. He shipped off album cuts, unreleased songs and demos, which the other three debated on embellishing. They decided to use a couple anyway, kind of like saying, “well, this is what John is up to these days, so let’s give it a rest.” Let ‘Em In was originally written for Ringo, but it was Wings that had a big hit with it.

Around the time of this compilation, the Beatles discussed filming a sequel to Help called "Scared":
The film would feature the four individual Beatles being chased by fanatics (played by the same culprits in different character from Help) including one fanatic (Victor Spinetti) trying to kidnap them and make them play a personal concert. Besides the inevitable irony, John was too "scared" to act out his life under seige, as he dubbed it too close to reality. It would also take him away from his new dad duties. The script however would revive Jerry Lewis' career, after it was rewritten around him and called "The King of Comedy".

An album of the same name was conceived, but abandoned along with the movie.
